Cisco’s default hold music for over 65 million Cisco phone sets worldwide, "Opus No. 1" is a song composed with an Alesis Midiverb synthesizer in 1989 by a (then) 16 year old kid from the Bay Area named Tim Carleton. Carleton’s friend Derrick Deel helped him capture this magic on a four-track tape recorder. Years later, Derrick went to work at Cisco and asked Tim for permission to use the music for their new in-house VOIP system.
Transcript from a 2014 interview from NPR's "This American Life":

“So and then technically, what happened? So they license the music from you? I mean, do they renew their license every few years? Like, are you making any money off of it?”
Tim Carleton
“Not a penny. So I think that's probably my most legit claim as a music artist. I didn't make any money from my music.”
Considered one of Nine Inch Nails' signature songs, "Closer" is NIN's ninth studio release, making it "Halo 9" in the band's official Halo numbering system. Commercially, "Closer" reached No. 41 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was ranked at No. 2 on AOL's "69 Sexiest Songs of All Time" due to the explicit frankness of the chorus.
Lyrically, "Closer" is a song about self-hatred and obsession; to Reznor's dismay, the song was widely misinterpreted as a lust anthem due to its chorus, which famously includes the lines "I wanna fuck you like an animal / I wanna feel you from the inside".
Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, said of the song, "Come on dude: 'I wanna fuck you like an animal'? That's the all-time fuck song. Those are pure fuck beats—Trent Reznor knew what he was doing. You can fuck to it, you can dance to it and you can break shit to it."

Well this threw me off and gave me lots of corporate feels. Am I waiting on hold? Am I listening to a mashup? Has it been 30 seconds? Has it been 30 minutes? Nobody knows, but I love it!
