Acapella: Buried Myself Alive - The Used
Instrumental: We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together - Taylor Swift
Created for the Crumplbangers Weekly Challenge: Mash up bands playing the When We Were Young Festival
Do I get extra emo points for crying a lot while making this one? Seriously, both of these particular songs hit me so fucking hard.
The Used are another quintessential emo (some say "screamo") band that have been largely eclipsed by the later work of their contemporaries, in particular My Chemical Romance. But back in 2002, this Utah band's debut album was absolutely SEERING. In particular, the lyrics to the second single, "Buried Myself Alive," were very personal, being the soundtrack to a break-up from a toxic, transphobic, and sometimes abusive relationship that... sadly never actually happened. Instead I got gaslighted into an even more toxic marriage, which was also business relationship. Sigh.
Ten years later, when Mysterious D and I eventually DID break up -- a long, drawn-out, 3-year process -- Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" was a huge hit, and it became the theme song to my divorce.
By this point, I had kinda forgotten about The Used. That is, until Bootie Mashup did an emo-themed night, and the song triggered a flood of hurtful memories. In other words, PEAK EMO. Sadly, there were no mashups of this song. So.... here I am, fixing that particular "problem."
Special thanks to IamJstncrdble for making this mashup possible, with his excellent acapella extraction on The Used vocals.
