This is my first new mashup in a while, because I've been busy producing my most ambitious musical project to date, an album-length mega-mashup tentatively titled "Voyage". While I was working on it, I wondered if the Irish band The Script's 2008 hit "Breakeven" would work with the other three dozen or so songs I've also been planning to include in it. The idea to add "Breakeven" to "Voyage" honestly sounded better in my head, but I soon noticed another song that would work perfectly with "Breakeven": "Transient Happiness" by the Japanese band Doping Panda. In my opinion, this strangely named rock group is totally worth checking out, even if you don't speak Japanese.
The more I progressed with "Pieces", the more ideas I got for other songs to use, all of which mention the word "pieces". Thus, one could say this mashup is a tribute to Neil Cicierega, who would often combine songs in which certain words figured prominently in the lyrics. ("Best" is a particular standout of Cicierega's catalog if you ask me.)
Here's a full list of all the music sources I used:
The Script - Breakeven
Doping Panda - Transient Happiness
Duran Duran - Come Undone
Ashlee Simpson - Pieces of Me
Velvet Revolver - Fall to Pieces
Tears for Fears - Break It Down Again ("Worldbuilder" Soundmark)
