I have 3 mashups with "Running Up That Hill":
- Depeche Mode: https://remix.audio/track/34091
- Lazerhawk: https://remix.audio/track/33957
- Mike Oldfield: https://remix.audio/track/33877
With the recent passing of Andy Fletcher from DM and Kate Bush's Running Up that Hill topping charts again (thanks to the Stranger Things series), it was time to make a new version of this mashup as a tribute to Andy.

Running Stripped - an imaginary story and duet (sounds of the alternate universe 1986)
In 1985, Kate Bush released "Running Up That Hill (A deal with God)", where she sings about making a pact with God to exchange places with her lover, in order to better understand the mystery of relationships between men and women.
Meanwhile, writing and recording demos for the "Black Celebration" album, Martin Gore hears Kate's song on the radio: "It's a great idea, that's what I've been trying to write for 3 years! But last time I spoke to him, God had a really sick sense of humor (I don’t want to start blasphemous rumours but …) Anyway, good luck Kate on your deal. If it works, I'll make one too. So tomorrow I'm going to the hairdresser for my curls, I'll buy some lipstick, then I'll try to walk in her shoes (what brand? what size?). "
A few months later in 1986, when the album came out, Kate accepted Martin's offer for a duet:
"Kate, we really like what you do. We also make music with synths from outer space, and we still live in England. So, can we meet to record a song together? You know, just to celebrate the fact that we’ve seen the back of another black day."
Kate Bush remembers the recording session:
“All of them were nice and handsome, but also very shy. Andy greeted me and offered me coffee, telling me there was nothing to fear, and then he didn't say a word the rest of the day. But I remember he clapped at the end.
Then we had a good discussion with Alan about pianos and keyboards, but when he spent an hour comparing the quality of the samples on his Emu-2 and my Fairlight, he sounded like a real geek. We were looking at all those meters and graphs on pixelated 1980s monitors and he insisted: “See? Everything counts, in large amounts”.
Martin was very polite but didn’t speak much at first. Maybe he was impressed by my presence. He said to me with a smile, but a little embarrassed: "I’m not going down on my knees, begging you to adore me…"
But when he looked at me it was, how to put it ... as if he wanted to show me the world in his eyes, or if he was asking "understand me" insistently (kind of like a blond poodle watching me eat lunch). So I would give him big round eyes and hold back laughing, thinking he might be the man with the child in his eyes.
And then there was Dave, who was constantly making jokes and weird proposals, like coming with him into the trees, or laying in the grass and let hours pass...
Do you want to know, that it wouldn't hurt me (him and me, we wouldn't be unhappy...), but I didn't have time! I felt kind of stripped, almost down to the bone. And there I was like, 'If only I could ... It's just a question of time before they lay their hands on me.'
I could have started stripping and running down that road, running up that hill, with no problem, but it was too cold. I guess it was a question of lust ... "
In short, their collaboration was a success, but it stopped right there, and we are left to wonder why and what might have been...
Rumour has it that the next day, Kate could not find her 3 "1/2 floppy disk (containing samples of The Dreaming) and her makeup in her purse, nor her red shoes. That loss obsessed her for years, going so far as to write an entire album "The Red Shoes", which came out in 1993, the same year as "Walking In My Shoes"… (probably not a coincidence).
