My goal for this mashup was to create the gentlest, flirtiest, most alluring sound possible, with lyrics about love in its purest, most innocent, most uplifting form. The turn-of-the-millennium songs I used here were popular when I was in high school and had a Charlie Brown-ish crush on a girl named Heather. She was a neat, tidy, bespectacled beauty with a kind and studious nature and a cute aesthetic, often wearing long skirts that billowed in the breeze. I was a shy and funny-looking kid who never gathered the courage to talk to her, but she inspired me to push myself to the limit in all the classes we shared. To this day, these Y2K-era songs (and Carly Rae's charming tribute to the pop of previous decades) will always take me back to that time in my life, and remind me of Heather in particular. Wherever she is now, I hope she's doing well.
Anyway, here's a list of all the songs I used:
Britney Spears - Sometimes
Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You
Carly Rae Jepsen - All That
The Corrs - Breathless
Sarah McLachlan - World on Fire ("Worldbuilder" Soundmark V3)
Sarah McLachlan - Building a Mystery ("Worldbuilder" Soundmark V3)
