This mashup is built around a mid-1990s hip-hop/R&B anthem and a selection from one of the most beloved video games of all time. Listen for some surprises later on!
Growing up in the '80s and '90s, I was a huge gamer nerd who generally preferred Nintendo systems over Sega systems because of the NES and SNES' superior RPG selections. Of course, I would discover numerous standout Sega game soundtracks later in my life, including Masato Nakamura's well-made synthesized score from "Sonic the Hedgehog 2". One of the stage themes from that game bears an uncanny resemblance to Blackstreet's "No Diggity", so I admit I'm a little surprised nobody's mashed up the two tunes before.
Here's a complete list of all the audio sources I used:
Blackstreet featuring Dr. Dre and Queen Pen - No Diggity
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Chemical Plant Zone
Sonic Mania - Chemical Plant Zone
Smooth McGroove - Chemical Plant Zone
Chrono Trigger Symphony - Derelict Factory
Tears for Fears - Break It Down Again ("Worldbuilder" Soundmark)
If you're a video game music fan, I highly recommend checking out the a cappella works of Smooth McGroove on YouTube. You're welcome. ;)
