I did this for the Crumplbangers Challenge - it didn't even get a honorary mention, tumblweeded as usual :-( The challenge was Indie vs Mainstream and New Order are definitely classically indie (Factory band; this was released on Mute); but I suspect Plastic isn't the sort of guitar-based indie you are looking for (there are guitars in there, but it's indie dance).
Dua Lipa is mainstream in the highest - Warners - and interestingly Donna Summer strictly is indie as Casablanca was independent until the 80's - punk is seen as the inventor of big indie records and DIY but actually disco and DJ mixes/12"s beat them to it, a lot of punks and early 'indie' (in the sense of NME/Melody Maker) trod the path than the disco labels made and used the spare capacity after the disco crash. And indeed bands like New Order pioneered the indie/dancefloor crossover. Also I am a MAHOOSIVE New Order stan, almost as much as Dunproofin.
And those who know, know what a fucking pain in the arse that Donna Summer pella is to use.
This is the ADHD Bootie version for 15 second attention span TikTok kids who freak out at 7 minute records :-P #shade I mean New Order released 7-8 minute SINGLES - no radio edits kids, usually on some Benelux 12" import only....
Also AFAIK no-one, or very few people, have used Plastic in a mashup. Which confuses me as the instrumental and stems are out there. And the lyrics mirror Don't Start Now, Plastic is at first listen about someone being 'amazing' but that's sarcastic, they are actually poisonous/fake, a bit like the lover in Dua's song. Also has personal resonance (you know who you are; but then again I doubt you're here, here I am again arguing with people who aren't even here!)
Total banger, probably won't win this challenge most likely, but created from scratch for it, and showcases that indie isn't always moody white kids with guitars, there is a massive indie dance/disco scene.
Dua Lipa - Don't Start Now
New Order - Plastic (extended and album versions)
Donna Summer - I Feel Love.
