Me? Mashing modern country and gothic rock? With MY reputation? Err, Happy 4th of July?
I'm sure Goth Country exists somewhere, but this is very much a Goth County mashup. I came across Martina McBride's Independence Day, and was struck at how gothic/new wave it was, with it's messages of domestic violence and independence via arson and death....cheery!
Also weirdly right-wing patriotic types who never listen to lyrics have tried to claim it as an anthem...which according to the songwriter it's very much not. So let's reclaim it in a dark fashion?
So of course I had to pair it with Sisters of Mercy - Lucretia My Reflection...and a lpart of Con Air because Lucretia always reminded me of that old hymn 'He's Got The Whole World In His Hand' - if you know why I put that in, you know.
This goes out to PDSMix and his Goth Taco Mukbang and of course, Adriana.
