It was bound to happen. I finally got around to mashing up Sophie B. Hawkins' 1995 hit "As I Lay Me Down", known by many of her fans as "The Taco Song" for its recurring background chant that's frequently misheard. Hawkins herself is aware of this lyrical inside joke, and has commented on her website: "I love tacos, but that's not what I'm singing in the background; it's 'ooh la kah koh'."
Mystery solved.
Mexican cuisine-related mondegreens aside, this mashup also includes over a dozen other pop and rock anthems cut from the same chordal cloth. Most of these songs were released during the '90s, and many were fixtures on VH1 and MTV back when they used to show music videos. I cordially invite you all to take a laid-back trip down memory lane with over 24 minutes of rhythmic and harmonic variations.
